 Boxes for cereal, shoes, tissues, pizza, frozen entrees, desserts and detergents; carboard rolls for paper towel and tissue; carrier trays for bulk bottled water, soft drinks, cans, food, etc.

Flatten and place boxboard directly into the cart.

All non-waxed corrugated cardboard including packing & shipping boxes, corrugated packing material, etc.

Cut down to fit inside the Mixed Paper cart, or neatly tie bundles measuring no larger than 2' x 2' x 6” high (tie securely with string or twine - no wire or plastic strapping, please). Place beside Mixed Paper cart.

Waxed cardboard (use your fingernail to scratch the surface to check for wax)

Any cardboard pieces larger than 2’ x 2’

Unbundled (i.e., loose stacks) or dirty cardboard

 Plastic bottles have screw caps or spray, pump or pull-up tops. Food; dish soap; mouthwash; shampoo, conditioner and other personal care products; pills and vitamins; laundry products; household cleaners; automotive cleaners e.g. glass cleaner, windshield washer fluid, etc.

Empty and rinse bottles. Remove caps, spray pump and pull-up tops and place loose in cart.

Beverage bottles (take to Return-It Depot for refund)

Containers for motor oil; vehicle lubricants; antifreeze products

Plastic Clamshells

Plastic clamshell containers are clear with hinged or click-closed tops. Baked goods; fruit; produce; eggs, etc.

Beverage take-out cups with lids.

Empty and rinse cups. Remove lids and place loose in cart.

Plastic jars have wide mouths with screw-top lids. Peanut butter; jam; nuts; condiments; vitamins and supplements; personal care products and cosmetics; pharmaceuticals, etc.

Empty and rinse jars. Remove lids and place loose in cart.

 

Plastic Jugs with Screw Tops & Caps

Milk; cooking oil; laundry detergent; fabric softener; cleaning solutions; cleaning products; body care products; windshield washer fluid, etc.

Plastic Microwavable Bowls, Cups & Lids

Pails larger than four litres (pails up to 25 litres can be recycled at the North Shore Recycling Drop-off Depot)

Plastic trays and tops are clear or have black bottom trays with clear domes. Deli chicken; single-serve meals; prepared foods; baked good; housewares and hardware e.g. screws, picture hangers, etc.

Empty and rinse trays.

White or coloured plastic foam trays (take to a drop-off depot)

Liquid-absorbing pads

Stretch wrap for meat, poultry, fish or cheese

Plastic blister packs, e.g. plastic/foil protective packaging for pills and chewing gum

Plastic Tubs & Lids

Food e.g. margarine; spreads; dairy products such as yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream, ice cream, etc.

Empty and rinse tubs. Remove lids and place loose in cart.

Food-grade jars such as pickles, mayonnaise, etc. Non-refundable glass bottles. Clear or coloured glass accepted.

The best option for glass bottles and jars is to take them to a designated drop-off depot.

At this time glass in your Containers Cart will not be refused.

Empty and rinse. Remove lids and place lids loosely in cart for recycling.
