The programs above are all Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Programs.
EPR programs require producers to take responsibility for the full life cycle of their products, including collection and recycling. They usually require consumers to take their used materials back to a collection depot.
This shifts responsibility for the cost of recycling to the producer (i.e. brand owners, first importers or manufacturers) and away from municipalities and general taxpayers.
