Ease My Load Campaign

North Shore Recycling Program participated in the 2011 "Ease my Load" Campaign, part of Waste Reduction Week. Between October 17 and 23, 2011, we completed and promoted actions that help reduce garbage.

Monday, October 17:

North Shore Recycling Program Waste Reduction Week

Today we dropped off some broken small appliances as part of the new Unplugged Small Appliance Recycling Program.

Tuesday, October 18:

North Shore Recycling Program Waste Reduction Week

We compost all our fruit and veggie scraps in our office. Our collection bucket is kept in the fridge to discourage fruit flies and odours.

Wednesday, October 19:

We shopped at the local thrift store for our Hallowe’en costumes. Buying used Hallowe'en costumes (and décor!) helps to keep waste out of our landfills and saves valuable resources that would have been used to make and package new stuff.

Thursday, October 20:

North Shore Recycling Program Reusable Cup

Today we used reusable cups for an afternoon smoothie treat rather than resorting to those pesky single-use disposable containers that go straight into the garbage. We also take our Tupperware containers to restaurants for take-out and leftovers.

Friday, October 21:

We’re often running out for supplies for the office or for home during our busy work-days. To make sure we can always say, ‘no bag, thanks!,’ we keep a stash of reusable bags in a central location of our office for everybody to use.

Saturday, October 22:

North Shore Recycling Program Paper

We avoid printing whenever we can, but if we have to print we reuse one-sided paper in our printer and only purchase new paper made with 100% post-consumer waste.

Sunday, October 23:

North Shore Recycling Program Reusable Towels

We reduce our waste by using cloth roll-towels for drying our hands. No “dry and throw” for us!
